Choosing a wig starts with two separate questions: how much lace do you want, and how will the wig stay in place? 13x4, 13x6 and closure describe lace coverage. Glueless describes a wig designed to be worn without adhesive. A wig can be both a lace front and glueless.
The quick comparison
| Format | Lace width and depth | Parting space | Prep and adhesive |
|---|---|---|---|
| 13x4 lace front | Nominally 13 inches across and 4 inches back | Front parting within the actual lace panel | Depends on cap construction, lace preparation and fit; size alone does not tell you whether glue is needed |
| 13x6 lace front | Nominally 13 inches across and 6 inches back | More potential depth than 13x4, especially through the centre | Not automatically harder to install or glueless; check the individual wig |
| Closure | A smaller panel, such as 4x4 or 5x5 inches | Limited to the panel's location and shape | A smaller area to blend, but adhesive needs depend on the design |
| Glueless | Varies; check the stated lace size | Depends on its lace panel, not the glueless label | Designed for adhesive-free wear with suitable fit and securing features; may still need lace trimming or styling |
What do the numbers mean?
The first number describes lace width and the second describes depth, in inches. These are nominal measurements, not a promise of a full rectangular parting area. Some panels are deeper in the centre and narrower at the sides. Check cap photos and the selected variant before buying.
13x4: front parting without extra depth
A 13x4 lace front offers a broad front lace area with less depth than a comparable 13x6. It can suit a middle or side part when that part sits inside the actual lace panel. Do not part beyond the lace into the wefted area, where tracks may become visible.
It is not automatically easier to install or better for every beginner. Pre-cut lace, hairline preparation, cap fit and your intended style matter more than the size label alone.

13x6: more room for a deeper part
A 13x6 has the same nominal width as a 13x4 with two extra inches of nominal depth. If the cap provides that usable lace space, it offers more room for a longer part. Check how far the lace extends at the sides as well as through the centre.
A larger front panel does not guarantee a seamless result or a high ponytail. Styles exposing the back and sides depend on the whole cap construction; a front lace panel is not the same as lace around the entire perimeter.
Prep time depends on whether the lace needs cutting, the hairline needs customising and the fit needs adjusting. Extra parting depth does not automatically mean extra installation time.

Closure: a smaller lace area to work with
A closure wig uses a smaller lace panel rather than a broad frontal. A 4x4 panel is nominally four inches wide and four inches deep; a 5x5 gives more space in both directions. The surrounding cap is commonly wefted.
A closure can be practical if you prefer to keep your part within one smaller area. It may allow a centre or side part inside that panel, depending on its position and construction. It does not restrict every wearer to a centre part, but it does not offer the same width as a frontal.
Less lace can mean less area to blend. It does not guarantee less tension or healthier edges: cap tightness, securing methods, removal and hair care still matter. A closure label also does not guarantee adhesive-free wear.

Glueless: an installation design, not a lace size
A glueless wig is designed to stay on without adhesive when properly fitted. Depending on the product, securing features may include an adjustable band, straps, combs or clips. Do not assume every wig has all of these features.
This can suit someone who wants removable daily wear or prefers to avoid adhesive. It is not a guarantee of irritation-free wear: tight bands, combs and friction can also cause discomfort. Security depends on cap fit, construction and activity, so test the fit before relying on it for an active day.
Glueless does not necessarily mean pre-cut or ready straight out of the box. Check whether trimming, styling or fit adjustment is needed. Parting freedom still comes from the lace dimensions.
For this format, see the Wear and Go glueless straight 6x4 wig.
Do 13x4, 13x6 or closure wigs need glue?
The measurements alone cannot answer that. Check whether the specific wig is designed for adhesive-free wear and whether it fits securely. Do not assume any lace front can be safely worn without adhesive, or that every closure requires none.
If you choose an adhesive installation, follow the wig and adhesive manufacturers' instructions for application and removal. Use products intended for the purpose, follow any patch-test guidance and avoid irritated or broken skin. Stop if the fit or product causes discomfort.
How to choose before you buy
- For a part contained in a smaller area, consider a closure and check its placement.
- For broader front parting, compare 13x4 options and inspect the actual panel shape.
- For a longer part, consider 13x6 and confirm usable depth in your preferred part position.
- For adhesive-free daily wear, prioritise a glueless design with the right cap fit, then choose the lace coverage you want.
- Check the selected variant's lace size, cap details, length and availability, rather than relying only on the product title.
